Garmin 010-00896-13 Review by bash75

This helps in cities with High Traffic. I live in LA and drive around a lot with my job. This comes in handy.

Garmin 010-00896-13 Review by Erik Okerholm "some normal guy....." (Austin, TX)

So worth the extra $52 compared to getting the traffic bundle in with the Garmin Unit. Per tech support. The LMT models have preloaded software with ADS that pop up when stopping! No thank you! If you get this unit that has the Lifetime Traffic with it, you do not get those pesky ads. I could have gotten the LT included with the model of Garmin I purchased for $52 cheaper, but my screen is never interupted with those annoying pop up ads. Money well spent. So just get the Lifetime Map model and this Traffic receiver and be the happy camper I am. 6 starts! :-)

Garmin 010-00896-13 Review by Phil Gagner (Dallas, TX)

My unit came from merchant "GPS-FOR-YOU." It appeared to be brand new and unused when I unpacked it. When I started using this traffic adapter, it worked as I expected and did provide traffic information. However, ads began appearing soon after initial activation. I contacted Garmin directly -- they asked for the serial number, and responded that the unit I received was ad-supported. The good news is that I contacted the Marketplace vendor, and they gave me a refund without incident.

As for the unit's performance (ads notwithstanding), I am a little disappointed with the traffic information that I receive. I will look at Google Maps first thing in the morning, and see that there are already traffic issues, so I plot a course to work with my nuvi and this traffic adapter. It fluctuates between saying there is no traffic delay, to telling me there is a 0:02 (2 minute) traffic delay. I live 25 miles from the office, so it has plenty of time to get updates (30 minutes on a good, no-traffic day, or up to an hour or more on bad traffic days). I am about 20 minutes into my commute when I hit traffic, yet the nuvi still says there is no traffic. Then, after sitting in traffic for a couple of minutes, it suddenly indicates I have a 0:25 delay. If it had given me this information 15 or 20 minutes earlier, or even 5 minutes earlier! then I would have been happy and in a more reasonable position to try to find an alternate route, but by the time I'm at this point, I don't have much choice other than to tough it out, which kind of defeats the purpose of having this traffic adapter. This happens to me consistently.

It occasionally does a good job of letting me know of traffic ahead of time, and it is a life-saver when there is a major incident (such as a closed highway) to reroute you around it, but it can be very hit and miss on my daily commute.
